Mykola Radzivil the Red

He was one of the first influential magnates to adopt Calvinism, he had a significant impact on the dissemination and propaganda of reform ideas. He invited foreign Protestant scientists, founded a higher school for Calvinist youth.

In 1569 he was an opponent of the Union of Lublin and a supporter of maintaining the independence of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. After the death of Sigismund II Augusta was the de facto head of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

He was a famous general. From 1561 he participated in the Livonian War. During the company of King Stefan Batory took Wenden and Velikiye Luki. Participated in the siege of Pskov.
